Master's students can apply for part-time internships starting their first semester

After their fourth year, Ph.D. students can also hold internships

Here are some of the companies and positions where our current master's and Ph.D. interns are working:

I assisted in analyzing data based on psychological theories and using advanced statistical analysis, monitored data collection on MTurk, and helped with preparing APA format conference submissions, papers, technical reports, and presentations. A very friendly work environment.

Great experience working with management of all levels both inside HR and in engineering. Learned the needs of different stakeholders and how to cater to them. Worked mainly on competency modeling and data analysis: qualitative and basic quanitative data visualization in Excel.

I received valuable corporate experience working in internal HR. Direct access to business leaders allowed me to practice translating I/O psychology concepts into actionable business solutions.

  • Student Trainee in Office of the Internal Ombudsman for the FDIC

I gained insight into how employee engagement data is gathered, communicated, and utilized to drive targeted initiatives. Experience observing workplace interactions, employee-led initiatives, and priorities of senior leadership markedly improved my understanding of fundamental I/O concepts.

Very research based internship focused on creating actionable interventions backed by evidence. Worked on literature reviews, qualitative analyses of technical reports, and the creation of learning modules for leadership development. Really drew upon what I learned in class (especially Leadership). Must be a US Citizen to qualify.

I acted as a grading assistant and have instructed sessions on Communication and Leadership in organizations for the Organizational Behavior course under the School of Management. As a research assistant, I explored novel interventions for fostering positive organizational change.

It is a good place for getting applied research experience. I have been involved in multiple applied projects focusing on team resilience and performance in Army context. The organization also helped me develop qualititave research skills (e.g. leading focus group discussion, content analysis, and various coding techniques).

  • Assessment Intern for Suited

I developed strong skills designing, implementing, and validating selection assessments to be implemented in the recruiting efforts of investment banks and law firms. I worked mostly with competency modeling, CFA and IRT analyses in R, item pool construction, and interview question development. I was able to leverage what I learned in courses to gain hands-on I/O experience.

  • Talent Assessment Intern for Amazon

I spent the summer working at Amazon's HQ in Seattle. My role involved developing and validating hiring assessments for Amazon employees. Specifically, I leveraged my knowledge of job analysis and measurement to help them launch a new assessment for mid-level job applicants. I also developed an R package for my team, which was very validating. It was a great environment with some cool perks--dogs are allowed in the office, and my team was very welcoming.
